By the numbers: Knicks make history with all-time charge

Well, that was insane.

The New York Knicks went from zero to hero in the span of 24 minutes, miraculously erasing a 29-point deficit in the second half to storm back and shock the San Antonio Spurs in Game 4 of the NBA Finals Wednesday.

Here are some of the standout numbers from the historic comeback.

29: The Knicks didn't just break the Finals record for biggest comeback, they shattered the all-time playoff mark. New York chipped away at the 29-point deficit throughout the third, but still trailed by 20 points at one juncture of the fourth. Despite that, they were able to post just the fifth 20-plus point comeback in the fourth quarter of a playoff game since 1997. If that doesn't sound too outlandish it's probably because they also registered the fourth one last month.

46: After setting an NBA Finals record with 76 points in the first half, the Spurs went ice-cold from the floor and scored only 30 points total in the second. That 46-point decrease matches the largest the sport has seen from the 1st to 2nd half in a playoff game in the last 70 years. It's also the first time in any NBA game ever that those two specific numbers have been hit.

3: The Knicks continued their incredible Houdini act this series, once again turning defeat into victory in the final 2 minutes. New York's three wins this series have all come despite trailing in the final 120 seconds in all three contests. According to Josh Dubow of the Associated Press, that's the first time that's happened in the play-by-play era dating back to 1997.

33: The Knicks were once again carried heavily by OG Anunoby and Jalen Brunson, with that duo both scoring at least 33 points in the win. That's the first time the Knicks have had two players score at least 30 points in a Finals game, and marks the first time since 2017 that two teammates achieved the feat.

14: There's no question that there are fans out there who turned the television off with the Spurs leading by 27 at halftime. While they are in for the shock of a lifetime, you can hardly blame them given how San Antonio lit up Madison Square Garden through the opening two quarters. With 14 shots made from beyond the arc, the Spurs broke the NBA finals record for most triples in a half. Unfortunately, for as much as you can live by the 3, you can die from it just as fast, and that happened in the second half. The Spurs made just three total shots from deep over the final 24 minutes.
