Looking at Rudy Gay's historically inefficient Monday night
On Monday night, the Toronto Raptors took the Houston Rockets to double overtime, eventually succumbing 110-104.
Perusing the box score, you may see "29" in Rudy Gay's points column and think the Raptors' wing had a strong night. You may think the same if you see a highlight of his game-tying three at the end of the first overtime.
Think again.
Gay's game Monday was historically inefficient.
To wit, Gay missed more shots Monday than many starts have even attempted in a game this year:
Most shots Kevin Love has taken in a game this season: 25. Kevin Durant: 24. LeBron: 20 ... Rudy Gay MISSED 26 tonight.

Gay shot 11-of-37 from the floor. He averaged 0.71 points per possession used, a mark that, if he were a team, would easily be the worst offense of all time (and let's be honest, he took 37 shots - he thought he was a team). His shot chart looks like a straight edge journal.
In NBA history, there have been 73 instances of a player taking 37 field goal attempts or more in a game. Gay just tied the lowest point total in that group (Michael Jordan, Nov. 3, 1997).
We repeat: this matched the lowest point total ever for someone with that volume of shot attempts.
Gay is now averaging 19.3 points on 35.6 percent shooting. He is not this bad. Except, on Monday, he was.
