A high ankle sprain will keep Orlando Magic star Franz Wagner on the sidelines, the team announced Monday.
Orlando didn't provide a recovery timeline for Wagner, but an MRI revealed no structural damage, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania.
"His return will depend on how he responds to treatment," the Magic said in a statement.
Wagner suffered the injury in the first quarter of Sunday's 106-100 road loss to the New York Knicks. The 24-year-old leapt for a dunk on an alley-oop pass from Anthony Black when center Ariel Hukporti fouled him with 4:43 remaining in the frame.
"You never want to see anybody go down, but that hurt my heart, watching him hit the floor," Magic coach Jamahl Mosley told The Associated Press postgame.
Wagner's injury follows a 10-game stretch in which teammate Paolo Banchero was out due to a groin injury. The loss to the Knicks marked Banchero's second game back.
Wagner leads the Magic in scoring with 22.7 points per game on 49% shooting across 24 contests this season. The German international also has a career-high 6.1 rebounds to pair with 3.7 assists and 1.2 steals.
