Report: Giannis out at least 2 weeks due to calf strain
Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo will be out two-to-four weeks after suffering a right calf strain in Wednesday's victory over the Detroit Pistons, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania.
The two-time MVP exited three minutes into the first quarter after collapsing to the floor while running back on defense. He left the court under his own power.
Antetokounmpo's injury comes at a perilous time for the Bucks, who are 2-8 in their last 10 outings and hold the 10th and final play-in spot in the Eastern Conference.
The injury follows reports of ongoing discussions between Milwaukee and the nine-time All-Star about his future with the franchise. A resolution is expected in the coming weeks and will determine whether the 30-year-old is available prior to the Feb. 5 trade deadline, according to Charania.
Antetokounmpo reportedly explored his options in the summer and was open to joining the New York Knicks in August. Several teams are expected to be in the running for the former Finals MVP should he move on from Milwaukee.
Antetokounmpo is averaging 28.9 points on 63.9% shooting in 17 games this season. The 2020 Defensive Player of the Year is also recording 10.1 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game.
