Report: Spurs' Fox to make season debut Saturday vs. Pelicans
San Antonio Spurs star guard De'Aaron Fox plans to make his season debut against the New Orleans Pelicans at home Saturday, sources told Shams Charania of ESPN.
Fox ramped up this week in an attempt to return over the weekend after recovering from an offseason hamstring injury, according to Charania.
The 2022-23 All-Star could potentially play on a minutes restriction.
The 27-year-old appeared in just 17 games with the Spurs during the 2024-25 campaign following a trade from the Sacramento Kings in a three-team blockbuster deal last February. He averaged 19.7 points per contest with 6.8 assists, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.5 steals on 44.6% shooting from the field while averaging 34 minutes per game after the move.
Fox's best season came in 2023-24, when he averaged 26.6 points, 5.6 assists, 4.6 rebounds, and an NBA-leading 2.0 steals across 74 games for the Kings.
The return of Fox will strengthen a Victor Wembanyama-led Spurs team that enters Friday's action with a 5-2 record.
