Report: 76ers, Grimes 'very far apart' on new deal
The Philadelphia 76ers and restricted free agent Quentin Grimes are "very far apart" on a new deal, ESPN's Shams Charania reports.
Grimes' agent, David Bauman, told Charania that the 76ers hadn't made a formal offer to his client until Wednesday.
Bauman said the fifth-year guard won't attend Philadelphia's media day Friday or travel with the team to Abu Dhabi this weekend for next week's preseason games against the New York Knicks.
Grimes has until Oct. 1 to sign a one-year, $8.7-million qualifying offer.
The 76ers acquired Grimes from the Dallas Mavericks last February in exchange for Caleb Martin and a 2025 second-round pick.
Grimes was a bright spot for Philadelphia down the stretch, averaging 21.9 points, 5.2 boards, 4.5 assists, and 1.5 steals across 28 appearances.
