The Los Angeles Lakers and five-time All-Star Luke Doncic agreed to a three-year, $165-million extension, his agent told ESPN's Shams Charania.

The agreement includes a player option for the 2028-29 campaign, Charania adds.

"Luka is one of the game's most transcendent players, and his on-court dominance and passion is without compare," Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka said in a statement.

"Above all else, Luka will lead our franchise to pursue future championships, a goal that will forever define the Lakers."

Doncic was eligible to ink an extension with the Lakers on Aug. 2 ahead of his first full campaign with the club following an in-season trade from the Dallas Mavericks. Doncic had a $48.9-million player option for 2026-27.

The five-time All-NBA first-team selection joined the Lakers on Feb. 2 as part of a blockbuster trade that sent Anthony Davis the other way.

Doncic averaged 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, 7.5 assists, and 1.6 steals in 28 regular-season games for the Lakers. His 50 appearances between Dallas and L.A. marked his fewest in any campaign of his seven-year NBA career, with a calf injury sidelining him for 22 straight contests.

"This is an amazing organization, and I truly believe in what we're building together. I'm going to keep working as hard as I can to bring another championship to Los Angeles and to make Laker Nation proud," Doncic said.

"This is just the beginning. I'm excited for what's ahead and to keep building something special with this team."

The 26-year-old Slovenian wasn't eligible to receive a super-max contract following the trade from the Mavericks, though he can get a significant raise when he reaches 10 years of service time in the NBA.
