Grizzlies' Edey to have ankle surgery, could miss start of next season
Memphis Grizzlies center Zach Edey re-sprained his left ankle in an offseason workout and will undergo surgery to re-stabilize it, the team announced Saturday.
Edey will likely miss the start of the 2025-26 season, per ESPN's Shams Charania.
The 7-foot-4 big man missed 12 games this past campaign due to a sprain in the same ankle.
"After consulting with the Grizzlies and multiple specialists, we decided this is the best approach for Zach long term as it gets him back to 100% with no limitations," Edey's agent Mark Bartelstein told Charania. "He will make a full recovery and be back better than ever."
Edey averaged 9.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game in 2024-25, earning All-Rookie first-team honors and finishing fifth in Rookie of the Year voting. The Canadian started 55 games after being drafted ninth overall by the Grizzlies in 2024.
Memphis finished eighth in the West at 48-34 before being swept in the first round of the playoffs by the Oklahoma City Thunder.
