Report: Spurs rookie Castle commits to Slam Dunk contest

San Antonio Spurs rookie Stephon Castle has committed to compete in this year's Slam Dunk contest, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania.

The 6-foot-6 guard recorded a 37-inch max vertical leap at last year's draft combine and already has a share of highlight-reel jams in his debut campaign.

No Spurs player has ever won the Slam Dunk contest. The team's last representative in the All-Star Weekend's marquee event was Greg Anderson in 1988.

Castle has been one of the NBA's top rookies. He's tallied the most steals (31) among first-year players and ranks third in both scoring (11.6 points per contest) and assists (3.6).

Various injuries have given Castle an opportunity to start. The UConn product is averaging 14.9 points across 23 appearances in the Spurs' first five.

San Antonio selected Castle with the No. 4 overall pick in last year's draft.
