Report: Kings send McDaniels, 2nd-round pick to Spurs

The Sacramento Kings are trading forward Jalen McDaniels and a second-round pick to the San Antonio Spurs, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania.

The Spurs reportedly plan to waive McDaniels, Charania adds.

The move opens up a roster spot for Sacramento and clears out $4.7 million in salary, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks.

The Kings inked six-time All-Star DeMar DeRozan to a three-year, $74-million contract this offseason and have now allocated just over $173 million to their 2024-25 roster, per Spotrac.

The Spurs can absorb McDaniel's contract with their $8-million mid-level exception, according to Marks.

Sacramento traded former top-10 pick Davion Mitchell, the rights to rookie guard Jamal Shead, Sasha Vezenkov, and a 2025 second-round selection to the Toronto Raptors for McDaniels during the offseason. Toronto subsequently waived Vezenkov, who signed with Olympiacos in Greece.

McDaniels averaged 3.0 points and shot 22.2% from the field and 0% from three in two preseason games for Sacramento. Throughout his NBA career, the San Diego State product has averaged 6.9 points and 3.3 rebounds for the Charlotte Hornets, Philadelphia 76ers, and Raptors.
