Nets' Simmons undergoes back surgery after being ruled out for year
Brooklyn Nets point forward Ben Simmons underwent a microscopic partial discectomy to alleviate the nerve impingement in his back, the Nets announced on Thursday.
The procedure comes a week after Simmons was ruled out for the season due to the injury. It's the second time during his tenure in Brooklyn that he's undergone the discectomy.
The Nets expect the LSU product to make a full recovery by next season's training camp.
Because of back problems, Simmons played in just 15 games this campaign, averaging 6.1 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 5.7 assists while shooting 58.1% from the floor.
The Australian has played only 57 games with the Nets since joining the franchise at the 2022 trade deadline.
At the end of this season, Simmons has one year and over $40 million remaining on the max contract he signed in 2020.
