The NBA suspended Detroit Pistons big man Isaiah Stewart three games without pay Thursday for "initiating a physical altercation" with Phoenix Suns center Drew Eubanks.

Stewart "punched and pushed" Eubanks prior to the Feb. 14 contest between both clubs, the league said in a statement. The former first-round pick is expected to begin serving his ban with Thursday's game against the Indiana Pacers.

Stewart will lose $108,966 in salary, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks.

Police arrested Stewart for assault and issued a citation before releasing him. The Phoenix Municipal Court has since dismissed the misdemeanor assault charge against Stewart, according to a filing obtained by ESPN's Baxter Holmes, so he no longer has a court date Friday.

The cause of the dispute between the players remains unknown.

Stewart has been sidelined since Jan. 31 due to an ankle injury. He's averaging 11 points, 6.8 boards, and 1.7 assists across 35 appearances this season.
