Lowry to sign with 76ers after buyout with Hornets

Veteran guard Kyle Lowry has agreed to a contract buyout with the Charlotte Hornets and will sign with the Philadelphia 76ers after clearing waivers, his agent told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

He subsequently confirmed the news on social media through his agent's employers.

Lowry's contract for the remainder of the campaign will be worth $2.8 million, adds Wojnarowski.

The 37-year-old didn't make an appearance for the Hornets after he was acquired from the Miami Heat last month.

Charlotte reportedly explored trades involving Lowry but was unable to strike a deal prior to the deadline.

Lowry's signing is a homecoming as the six-time All-Star hails from Philadelphia and played collegiately at Villanova.

It's also a reunion with his old head coach Nick Nurse. The two spent several years together with the Toronto Raptors, leading the Canadian club to its lone title in 2019.

Lowry is averaging 8.2 points, four assists, and 3.5 boards across 37 appearances this season. He gives Nurse another experienced point guard off the bench alongside the newly acquired Cameron Payne.
