Embiid out indefinitely due to meniscus procedure

Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid will have surgery on his left meniscus, a team official told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The timeline for his recovery won't be issued until the procedure is complete. However, Embiid is expected to miss an extended period of time.

The reigning MVP left Tuesday's game against the Golden State Warriors late in the fourth quarter after Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga fell on his leg. Embiid had missed the previous two contests with knee soreness.

This will be the second time the 29-year-old undergoes surgery on his left meniscus. In 2017, he had arthroscopic surgery to remove a small portion of the meniscus in that knee.

Embiid is averaging 35 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 5.7 assists through 34 games this season. This surgery will most likely leave him under the 65-game threshold needed to qualify for awards, such as the MVP trophy.

The Sixers are 4-10 in 14 games without their superstar this year and sit fifth in the Eastern Conference with a record of 30-18.
