Bradley Beal will miss the Phoenix Suns' season opener against the Golden State Warriors, head coach Frank Vogel told reporters ahead of Tuesday's game.
Phoenix is opting for a cautious approach to Beal's back injury, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania. It's unclear when the star guard will make his regular-season debut, but Charania adds there's optimism that Beal is progressing in his return.
The Suns acquired Beal in a blockbuster offseason deal with the Washington Wizards that included Chris Paul (who was subsequently flipped to the Warriors) and several second-round draft picks.
Beal, 30, is expected to form a prolific trio alongside new Suns teammates Kevin Durant and Devin Booker, providing a legitimate scoring option beside the two All-Stars.
The three-time All-Star owns career averages of 22.1 points, 4.3 assists, and 4.1 rebounds from his 11 seasons with the Wizards.
While the Suns could start their 2023-24 campaign without Beal, the Warriors will be without Draymond Green. The star forward suffered a left lateral ankle sprain in a pickup game a few days before the start of training camp. Golden State has gradually increased Green's workload ahead of the regular season, but he hasn't been cleared for a game yet.
