Report: Lakers interested in Wood, Biyombo
After retaining most of last season's roster, the Los Angeles Lakers are looking to shore up their center depth.
Big men Christian Wood and Bismack Biyombo are being considered for the team's 14th roster spot, sources told The Athletic's Jovan Buha.
The Lakers reportedly had an interest in Dario Saric before the former first-round pick signed with the Golden State Warriors over the weekend.
Los Angeles inked ex-New Orleans Pelicans center Jaxson Hayes to a two-year contract earlier in free agency.
"I think dimensionalizing the skills at that position would be important," Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka told reporters Sunday. "So we don't want to sign someone who replicates the skills that Jaxson Hayes has. So if we can diversify the big position and have different looks, that would be good."
Wood averaged 16.6 points and 7.3 boards over 67 appearances for the Dallas Mavericks last season. The UNLV product earned early Sixth Man of the Year buzz but faded in the second half of the campaign. He's a 37.9% career 3-point shooter and would provide the Lakers with a floor-spacing option in the frontcourt.
Meanwhile, Biyombo registered 4.3 points and 4.3 boards per contest across 61 games for the Phoenix Suns. In limited minutes, he provided superb rim protection. His 5.1% block percentage ranked in the 100th percentile among big men, per Cleaning the Glass.
