Memphis Grizzlies big man Jaren Jackson Jr. said teammate Dillon Brooks' trash talk targeting LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers backfired in their first-round playoff series.

"It helped L.A. get around something and get some energy and get some life, and they went in the game with some life," Jackson said on the "Podcast P with Paul George" recently. "But (James) is old. He kicked our ass, and he's old."

Brooks dismissed James following the Grizzlies' Game 2 win, calling him "old."

He added, "I poke bears. I don't respect no one till they come and give me 40."

The Lakers went on to win the next two games and eventually eliminated the No. 2-seeded Grizzlies to advance to the Western Conference semifinals.

Brooks is set to become a free agent this summer. The Grizzlies reportedly informed the 27-year-old in May that they have no intention of re-signing him.
