The Atlanta Hawks have hired Quin Snyder as their next head coach, the team announced Sunday.

Both parties agreed on a five-year deal, which includes the remainder of the 2022-23 campaign, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Snyder is reportedly expected to coach as soon as Tuesday against the Washington Wizards.

Charles Lee of the Milwaukee Bucks and Kenny Atkinson from the Golden State Warriors were among the other candidates said to be in the running.

Interim bench boss Joe Prunty and the rest of his coaching staff are expected to be retained by Snyder for the remainder of the season, sources told Wojnarowski.

The ex-Utah Jazz bench boss is apparently set to earn around $8 million annually.

Snyder's former player Donovan Mitchell spoke highly of him during a private conversation with Trae Young following Friday's matchup between the Hawks and Cleveland Cavaliers, adds Wojnarowski.

Snyder replaces the recently fired Nate McMillan, who was let go after parts of three seasons in Atlanta.

Snyder has some history with the Hawks, having served as an assistant under Mike Budenholzer during the 2013-14 campaign. He subsequently became the Jazz's head coach, posting a 372-264 record over eight seasons in Utah.

While Snyder built the franchise into a perennial contender, he was unable to guide the Jazz past the second round of the playoffs.

Snyder resigned from his position last June and was linked to the Los Angeles Lakers' and Brooklyn Nets' head coaching vacancies during his year away from the sidelines.

"I am thrilled to go back to Atlanta as the next head coach of the Hawks," Snyder said in a statement. "(General manager) Landry (Fields) has a tremendous reputation as an incredibly bright, high character, high quality individual, and it was quickly evident that we share a passion and commitment to building a winning team with a strong foundation and high standards."

Atlanta currently sits eighth in the East with a 31-30 record.
