Kyrie Irving's relationship with Nike appears to be over for good.

Nike co-founder Phil Knight addressed the company's decision to suspend ties with the Brooklyn Nets guard during an interview with CNBC's Becky Quick on Thursday.

"Kyrie stepped over the line. It's kind of that simple," Knight said. "He made some statements that we just can't abide by and that's why we ended the relationship. And I was fine with that."

Nike announced it was suspending its relationship with Irving and cancelling the release of his upcoming signature shoe amid the fallout from him tweeting a link to a movie with antisemitic tropes. Knight indicated Thursday that it's unlikely Nike will work with Irving again.

"I would doubt that we go back," Knight said. "But I don't know for sure."

Irving signed a deal with Nike in 2011 and launched his signature shoe line with the brand three years later.
