The Cleveland Cavaliers and All-Star guard Darius Garland agreed to terms on a five-year, $193-million maximum designated rookie contract extension, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
The deal could be worth up to $231 million should Garland make one of the league's three All-NBA teams in each season of the contract, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks. The agreement represents the largest contract in Cavaliers franchise history.
Garland averaged 21.7 points, 8.6 assists, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.3 steals for the Cavs this past campaign to earn his first All-Star appearance. Cleveland drafted Garland fifth overall in 2019.
The Cavaliers doubled their win total from the prior season to collect 44 victories in 2021-22. Despite the improvement, Cleveland lost both play-in games, marking the club's fourth straight campaign without playoff basketball.
The Cavs have been busy this offseason, drafting Kansas wing Ochai Agbaji 14th overall, reportedly retaining key free agent Ricky Rubio, and adding veterans Robin Lopez and Raul Neto.
