Minnesota Timberwolves guard Patrick Beverley struggled to contain his emotions after Tuesday's hard-fought 109-104 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers at Target Center.

The fiery veteran was especially ecstatic to clinch the Western Conference's No. 7 seed and a first-round matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies with a win over his former team.

"Man, I wanted this one so bad. This is just the icing on the cake, the cherry on top," Beverley said, according to ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk. "Play-in, to be able to beat them ... another goal scratched off. I told you we were going to the playoffs. Most of you all, y'all looked at me like I was crazy when I first said that. I f------ told y'all."

Beverley referenced in March an impasse in contract extension talks that contributed to the Clippers trading him to Memphis last offseason after a four-year run with L.A. Beverley, who was later rerouted from Memphis to Minnesota, elaborated on what it meant to earn a key victory against a team he once called his own.

"Blood, sweat, and tears, to just be written off like that. 'He's injury-prone. He's old.' This, this, that, that," Beverley said. "To be able to come here and play them in a play-in and beat they ass, no other feeling, man. No other feeling."

Beverley finished the contest with seven points, 11 rebounds, three assists, one block, and a crucial late-game steal. The 33-year-old's teams have now qualified for the playoffs in nine of his 10 NBA seasons.

The Timberwolves begin their first-round series against the Grizzlies on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET in Memphis.
