Newest Pelican McCollum hasn't spoken with Zion since Feb. 9 trade
The New Orleans Pelicans acquired CJ McCollum 10 days ago, but the veteran shooting guard has yet to speak directly with injured franchise star Zion Williamson.
"I haven't had conversations with him directly," McCollum told the "Inside the NBA" panelists Saturday at All-Star Weekend, per NOLA.com's Christian Clark. "I've spoken with some people close to him and look forward to sitting down with him sooner than later.
"I know about as much as you do right now, but I'm going to get to the bottom of this."
Williamson, an All-Star last year, hasn't appeared in a game this season. The 2019 No. 1 pick has been rehabbing a broken right foot away from the team since January.
However, Williamson's newest teammate is eager to begin forming a connection.
"He's a big part of our future," McCollum said. "Obviously, we're looking forward to getting him back."
McCollum has averaged 28.4 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 5.4 assists in five games for the Pelicans.
