Veteran big man Kelly Olynyk will be sidelined for the foreseeable future due to a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his left knee, the Detroit Pistons announced Thursday, according to Fox2 Detroit's Dan Miller.

The injury occurred late in Wednesday's tilt against Olynyk's former team, the Houston Rockets. He'll be re-evaluated in six weeks.

The 30-year-old Canadian is averaging 12.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.4 steals in just 23 minutes per game while coming off the bench for all but one of his 10 appearances this season.

After starting his career with stints with the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat, Olynyk parlayed a strong second half with the rebuilding Rockets last season into a new three-year, $37.2-million contract this summer.
