The Dallas Mavericks are raising Dirk Nowitzki's jersey to the rafters.

Dallas intends to retire the franchise legend's No. 41 when the team hosts the Golden State Warriors on Jan. 5, sources told basketball insider Marc Stein.

Nowitzki, 43, played all 21 of his NBA seasons with the Mavericks, retiring after the 2018-19 campaign. The 14-time All-Star and 2007 MVP led the franchise to its first and only title in 2011. He leads the club in all-time games played (1,522), points (31,560), rebounds (11,489), blocks (1,281), and 3-pointers (1,982).

The German forward wore No. 41 throughout his entire career, and no Mavericks player has donned it since.

In June, Nowitzki returned to the franchise in an official capacity for the first time since his playing days, joining the front office as a special advisor. Team owner Mark Cuban requested Nowitzki's help in the team's search for a new head coach following Rick Carlisle's exit. Cuban later hired former Mavericks star Jason Kidd for the position.
