Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Jamahl Mosley took charge of the team for Friday's game against the New York Knicks after head coach Rick Carlisle tested positive for COVID-19.
Carlisle, who said he's been fully vaccinated since January, announced earlier Friday he had tested positive and was told to stay at the team's hotel in New York City pending the results of a second test.
"I had an unexpected positive test. There's a chance and a hope that it will be a false positive," Carlisle said, according to the Dallas Morning News' Brad Townsend.
He added: "It definitely was unexpected. I have no symptoms. I feel great. I worked out earlier this morning. But this is just one of these situations where we've all got to be light on our feet."
Carlisle has since been cleared to travel with the team to D.C. for Saturday's game against the Wizards, Mosley told ESPN Tim MacMahon following Wednesday's contest.
Four Mavericks players have tested positive for COVID-19 throughout the season, while Jalen Brunson and Willie Cauley-Stein have both missed time due to health and safety protocols. Cauley-Stein remains out and hasn't played since March 18.
