Washington Wizards forward Rui Hachimura will be sidelined for about three weeks due to an eye infection, the team announced Monday.

Washington confirmed that Hachimura was diagnosed with bilateral epidemic keratoconjunctivitis (EKC) on Dec. 16, prompting his absence from the team's final two preseason games.

EKC is a highly contagious viral conjunctivitis causing inflammation on the ocular surface and is commonly referred to as pink eye.

Hachimura, 23, is entering his second season with the Wizards after the former Gonzaga standout was selected ninth overall in the 2019 NBA Draft.

Hachimura started 48 games during the 2019-20 campaign for Washington, averaging 13.5 points on his way to earning an All-Rookie Second Team nod.

The Wizards kick off the upcoming season Wednesday on the road against the Philadelphia 76ers.
