Report: Lue to work with Kawhi, PG on fixing Clippers' chemistry

New Los Angeles Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue is taking steps to repair his team's locker-room issues.

Following reported complaints from players last season about preferential treatment given to Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, Lue plans to ask the club's two stars to discontinue some of their special requests and set an example for their teammates, sources told The Athletic's Jovan Buha.

It's unclear exactly which requests Lue hopes to stop. However, there were reportedly unique arrangements for Leonard and George in Los Angeles last season.

The two were the only squad members with their own security and trainers, and both players held control over the team's practice schedule, among other privileges, sources told Buha. Some teammates reportedly believed Leonard was behind certain practice cancellations.

Furthermore, it was reported in October that Patrick Beverley, Lou Williams, and Montrezl Harrell took issue with Leonard's load-management program, and the team allowing him to live further away in San Diego, causing the four-time All-Star to be late at times for flights. Williams and Harrell denied the story, and the latter has since signed with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Lue has logged head coaching experience managing several stars on one roster after his time with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He won a championship with the franchise in 2016, and the team made two other trips to The Finals while delicately balancing the trio of LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Love.

The new bench boss is also already familiar with most of the Clippers' roster after being Doc Rivers' lead assistant last season before replacing him in October.
