Glenn Rivers has approval from the Philadelphia 76ers' original "Doc" to keep his nickname.

The new Sixers head coach said earlier this month that he was fine with being called Glenn out of respect to Julius "Dr. J" Erving, noting, "There's only one Doc in town." However, Erving says that won't be necessary.

"I'm very cool with that," the franchise legend told Lauren Rosen of NBA.com when asked if there's room for two "Docs" in Philadelphia. "Very cool."

Erving then offered a suggestion on how the two "Docs" can differentiate themselves.

"The fact that I became 'Doctor J,' and he's 'Doctor G' - 'Doctor Glenn' - that's how we're going to have to do it in Philadelphia," he said. "You know, there were a lot of 'Docs' before me. Let's keep the J out there, and let's keep the G out there, because there are so many 'Docs' throughout the world, and we've got to give them their props, too."
