Luka surpasses Magic as NBA's youngest player to lead in triple-doubles
Another day, another NBA record for Luka Doncic.
The Dallas Mavericks wunderkind registered his 17th triple-double in Saturday's 136-132 overtime win over the Milwaukee Bucks, guaranteeing him the league lead in the department for the 2019-20 campaign.
With his 36-point, 19-assist, and 14-rebound performance, Doncic also surpasses Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson as the youngest player in NBA history to outright lead the Association in triple-doubles, according to ESPN Stats & Info.
"He knows where everybody is not only on offense, but defense," said Mavs head coach Rick Carlisle postgame, according to ESPN's Tim Bontemps. "That's the sign of a savant-type guy. I've played with Larry Bird, he could see everything like that. I had the privilege of coaching Jason Kidd ... Luka is in that same mold."
The 21-year-old already became the youngest player in league history to notch a triple-double consisting of at least 30 points and 20 rebounds in Tuesday's victory over the Sacramento Kings.
Doncic entered Saturday's contest sixth in league scoring, averaging 29 points per game to go along with 9.4 boards and 8.8 assists per contest. He is among the three finalists for the NBA's Most Improved Player award announced earlier in the day.
