Report: NBA to resume some drug testing, bubble reentry rules clarified
New details have emerged relating to two areas of the NBA's tentative season restart plans: reentering the so-called bubble environment, and drug testing.
If a player leaves the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World, that individual would be required to quarantine for at least 10 days and have two negative tests for COVID-19 before gaining reentry, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.
Additionally, the league and the National Basketball Players Association have agreed to continue testing for performance-enhancing drugs when the season resumes in late July, Charania reports. However, testing for recreational drugs will remain on hold.
The NBA reportedly suspended drug testing March 16, shortly after the campaign went on hiatus due to the pandemic. Under normal circumstances, players can be tested a maximum of four times during the season and twice during the offseason. The league can conduct no more than 1,525 total tests in a campaign.
