G League players are set to vote Saturday on the formation of a union, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Some agents and players are optimistic the vote will pass, Wojnarowski adds. If it does, those in the developmental league could then be allowed to negotiate a collective bargaining agreement with the NBA and G League.
The National Basketball Players Association, which represents NBA players, is reportedly assisting in the formation of the G League union.
Issues involving housing, travel, and salaries have been raised in the past by G League players, according to Wojnarowski.
No. 1 high school recruit Jalen Green will reportedly receive a $500,000 salary to headline a "Select Team" for the 2020-21 season rather than take the traditional college route. A standard G League contract paid players just $35,000 for the five-month regular season as recently as 2018-19, though "Select Team" players can't be called up to the NBA during the campaign, unlike those on standard contracts.
More than 50% of G League players must sign an electronic authorization card for the vote to pass, according to Wojnarowski.
NBPA leadership reportedly spoke with G League players in December about unionizing. G League president Shareef Abdur-Rahim said he welcomed the idea of the players forming a union.
