Report: NBA suspends drug testing during hiatus

The NBA and the National Basketball Players Association have agreed to suspend drug testing while the league's schedule is on hold, sources told Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes.

There are four categories of prohibited substances listed in the current collective bargaining agreement: drugs of abuse, marijuana, steroids and performance-enhancing drugs, and diuretics.

Normally, players can be tested a maximum of four times during a season and twice during an offseason. In total, the NBA can conduct no more than 1,525 tests during a season and 600 during an offseason.

Under CBA rules, testing is determined randomly through a third-party organization without input from the league, team, players' association, or any player.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver believes the hiatus will likely last at least 30 days, while some owners and executives have reportedly begun to target a return to action in mid-to-late June as the best-case scenario.
