Report: NBA bans practices through Monday, players to stay in team markets

The NBA informed teams Thursday that it's banning all practices until at least Monday as part of the league's measures against the coronavirus crisis, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Players are being directed to stay within their team's own market too, preferably at home for as long as possible. Every club's medical staff is also required to speak with each player on the team once per day, Charania adds.

The practice ban also includes any meetings and workouts, Marc Stein of The New York Times notes.

Initially, the league told teams they could still hold practices during the suspension, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban told ESPN's Tim MacMahon Wednesday.

The 2019-20 season is suspended indefinitely after Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert tested positive for COVID-19 Wednesday. On Thursday, his teammate Donovan Mitchell became the second player to be diagnosed with the virus.

The NBA hasn't provided an official timetable for the season to resume. However, owners are reportedly encouraging commissioner Adam Silver to re-evaluate the situation in a month.
