KD: I knew I'd leave Warriors at 'halfway point' last season
Kevin Durant knew he'd be moving on from the Warriors months before he even hit free agency last year.
The injured superstar, who joined the Brooklyn Nets alongside Kyrie Irving last July, acknowledged he had his mind made up about leaving the Bay Area midway through the 2018-19 campaign.
"I knew just about halfway point through the year. I could feel the separation between the two," Durant said during a recent appearance on the "All The Smoke" podcast about his decision to leave the Warriors.
"You just feel like everybody was just waiting on me to make a decision on free agency. Even from coaches to my teammates to the media - everybody was just like, 'KD, what you going to do?' It’s like January. And I’m like, 'I’m just trying to hoop. That’s all I want to do is play basketball every day,'" he continued.
Durant's impending free agency last year reportedly played a role in a highly-publicized feud he had with former teammate Draymond Green during an early-season contest.
The 2013-14 MVP is currently rehabbing from a torn Achilles tendon he suffered during Game 5 of the 2019 NBA Finals.
