Chicago Bulls big man Daniel Gafford is expected to miss the next two-to-four weeks after suffering a dislocated right thumb with a laceration Wednesday against the Washington Wizards, the team announced.

Gafford appeared to pick up the knock while stealing the ball under his own basket. After a break in play, he grabbed at his hand and ran straight off the court and to the locker room.

X-rays on Gafford's thumb returned negative.

Gafford's injury comes at an inopportune time for the Bulls, who are already without starting center Wendell Carter Jr. for at least four-to-five weeks after suffering a severe ankle sprain earlier in January.

The 21-year-old Gafford was averaging 4.9 points and 2.5 rebounds on the season heading into Wednesday's game. He had been faring much better since stepping into the starting lineup, though, averaging 8.7 points, four rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.3 blocks, and a steal in his last three contests.
