Kerr smashes clipboard, cuts hand during rare Warriors win

For at least one night, Golden State Warriors bench boss Steve Kerr channeled his inner hardcore wrestler.

Disgusted by a stretch of sloppy play in Wednesday's game against the Chicago Bulls, the 54-year-old smashed his clipboard into pieces, cutting his right hand in the process.

"It's a mere flesh wound," a bandaged Kerr said after his team's 104-90 win, according to ESPN's Nick Friedell. "I broke a clipboard. It's one of two. I'm allotted two (broken clipboards) a year. This was No. 1. It always cuts in the same place. This was a little deeper one. I was a little more upset."

Wins have been few and far between for the once-dynastic Warriors, who are woefully short-handed while Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson deal with significant injuries. With his team threatening to play itself out of a potential win Wednesday night, Kerr's frustration boiled over.

"We just had a stretch there where we were very careless," Kerr explained. "Particularly in transition defense. And we let them sneak behind us. Those are cardinal sins. We're 3-15 coming into the game, so every play matters, every possession matters, and you got to fight for everything, and I thought our guys did a great job of that down the stretch and deserved to feel good about the game and I'm really happy for them."

Draymond Green, one of the lone healthy reminders of the team's happier days, welcomed the gesture, noting that it helped disrupt any complacency.
