Brooklyn Nets forward Rodions Kurucs was arrested Tuesday for allegedly assaulting his then-girlfriend in June, Trevor Boyer and Graham Rayman of the New York Daily News reported, citing police sources and the criminal complaint.

The couple had an argument in late June at Kurucs' Brooklyn apartment that became physical, according to police sources.

Kurucs screamed, "I am going to kill myself" before apparently putting his hand around the woman's throat and choking her, police sources told Boyer and Rayman.

According to court documents, she said Kurucs then pushed her onto the bed, slapped her face, bit her lip, and pushed her into the bed frame.

The woman went to a City MD clinic and reported difficulty breathing and bruising to her left hand, ribs, and face, prosecutor Wilfredo Cotto told Brooklyn Criminal Court on Tuesday.

"After learning of the allegations against Rodions Kurucs, we notified and are assisting the league office as they begin the process of gathering more information," the Nets said in a statement. "The Nets organization takes allegations of this nature with extreme seriousness.

"While the investigation is underway and as we continue to learn more, we will refrain from commenting further."

Kurucs was charged with third-degree assault and criminal obstruction of breathing, among other charges. The judge released him without bail and issued an order of protection for Kurucs' ex-girlfriend. The former second-round pick is scheduled to return to court Oct. 21.

The 21-year-old averaged 8.5 points on 45% shooting across 63 appearances for the Nets during his rookie season.
