The New Orleans Pelicans have offered ex-Houston Rockets assistant Jeff Bzdelik a spot on head coach Alvin Gentry's staff, league sources told Marc Stein of The New York Times.

The two sides are close to a deal, sources told The Athletic's David Aldridge.

Bzedlik has spent considerable time at summer league with Gentry and the Pelicans organization, Stein adds.

The 66-year-old is highly regarded around the Association and was credited for the Rockets' defensive success after his arrival in Houston three years ago. Houston has allowed the sixth- and 10th-fewest points per game over the past two seasons, respectively.

Bzedlik walked away from the game after the 2017-18 season, but then he came out of retirement months later. He was among several key members of head coach Mike D'Antoni's staff who were let go following this past campaign.
