The Brooklyn Nets officially signed former Boston Celtics point guard Kyrie Irving on Sunday, the team announced.

Brooklyn did not confirm financial details, though reports stated the 27-year-old would sign a four-year, $141-million max contract.

"Kyrie is one of the NBA's elite guards and has won at the highest level," Nets general manager Sean Marks said in a statement. "His championship pedigree, coupled with his gifted scoring and playmaking abilities, will make him an outstanding addition to our team.

"We're very excited to welcome Kyrie and his family to Brooklyn."

Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson also expressed delight at the addition of the six-time All-Star.

"The entire coaching staff is excited to have the opportunity to coach a player of Kyrie's caliber," Atkinson said. "He is as talented and accomplished as any point guard in our game and we are enthusiastic about integrating him and our other new roster additions into our returning core."

Irving averaged 23.8 points, 6.9 assists, and five rebounds last season as his Celtics finished fourth in the Eastern Conference. He helped lead the team to the conference semifinals, where it fell to the Milwaukee Bucks in five games.

Brooklyn confirmed Saturday it has also signed free-agent center DeAndre Jordan. The club acquired Taurean Prince from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Allen Crabbe and the draft rights to Nickeil Alexander-Walker and traded forward DeMarre Carroll to the San Antonio Spurs as part of a three-team swap with the Washington Wizards.

The Nets are also expected to soon announce the addition of injured superstar Kevin Durant.
