Free agents Kevin Durant and Kawhi Leonard have discussed the possibility of playing together, league sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne.
The New York Knicks and Los Angeles Clippers are the two teams that currently possess the financial flexibility and interest to sign both Durant and Leonard, according to ESPN. Both players are reportedly expected to meet with the pair of clubs shortly after free agency begins on Sunday evening.
Of the two unrestricted free agents, only Leonard is a sure bet to play next season; Durant is facing a lengthy recovery after rupturing his right Achilles tendon during the Golden State Warriors' Finals loss to Leonard's Toronto Raptors.
Together, the two combine for 13 All-Star selections, 12 All-NBA selections, five All-Defense selections, four championships, and four Finals MVP awards.
Both Durant and Leonard have led multiple franchises to the NBA Finals. Durant appeared in the championship series once as a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder (2012) and with the Warriors in each of the past three postseasons, winning the title in 2017 and 2018. Leonard reached the Finals twice with the San Antonio Spurs (2013, 2014) and most recently with this year's Raptors, winning titles in his last two appearances.
In addition to separate meetings with the Clippers and Knicks, Leonard will reportedly meet with the Raptors and Los Angeles Lakers while Durant will apparently engage in discussions with the Warriors and Brooklyn Nets.
