The Golden State Warriors plan to offer All-Star guard Klay Thompson a five-year, $190-million max contract when free agency begins Sunday, league sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
It was reported Wednesday that Thompson planned to re-sign if the Warriors offered him a max deal. He was apparently willing to listen to offers from the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers otherwise.
The 29-year-old is considered one of the league's best two-way guards and earned NBA All-Defensive second-team honors this past season.
Over Thompson's eight-year career, he's developed into one of the most lethal 3-point shooters in league history. The five-time All-Star has never shot below 40 percent from beyond the arc since being drafted 11th overall by Golden State in 2011. Thompson and backcourt mate Stephen Curry have an NBA-record seven straight seasons of at least 200 triples.
Thompson averaged 21.5 points on 46.7 percent shooting from the floor across 78 appearances during the 2018-19 season. He's expected to miss most, if not all, of next season after tearing his left ACL during Game 6 of The Finals.
Signing Thompson would lock up the Splash Brothers through the 2021-22 season when Curry's contract is set to expire.
Golden State will now shift its focus to re-signing All-Star forward Kevin Durant.
