Report: Klay expected to miss 9-10 months after tearing ACL
The recovery timeline for Klay Thompson's torn left ACL is coming into focus, as league sources told Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes that the Golden State Warriors' star shooting guard is expected to miss 9-to-10 months.
Thompson sustained the injury while attempting a fast-break dunk in the third quarter of Thursday's season-ending loss to the Toronto Raptors.
Though he was in obvious pain and needed to be helped off the court, the 29-year-old briefly returned to shoot a pair of free throws moments after the injury occurred. After sinking both, he was subbed out of the game for good.
The reported timeline would put Thompson on track to return toward the end of the 2019-20 season, for which the five-time All-Star does not currently have a contract. Thompson is set to hit unrestricted free agency next month.
"I don't know yet what we're going to do (with Klay)," Warriors owner Joe Lacob told Haynes. "I've said for a long time I want Klay to be a Warrior for life, and so this doesn't change anything as far as I'm concerned."
