The New Orleans Pelicans have claimed Christian Wood off waivers, league sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The 23-year-old Wood was a member of the Milwaukee Bucks until he was waived on Monday, though he primarily plied his trade with the Wisconsin Herd of the G League.

In 28 games with the minor-league affiliate, the UNLV product averaged 29.3 points, 14.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 2.2 blocks, and 1.1 steals per game.

To make room for Wood, the team reportedly waived veteran big man Jason Smith, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania.

The 33-year-old Smith had appeared in just two games with the Pelicans this season. Since entering the league in 2007, the dependable backup big man has appeared in 616 regular-season games with six teams, including 201 with the Hornets/Pelicans franchise.
