Minnesota Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns was involved in a car accident Thursday while traveling to the airport in the Twin Cities area, head coach Ryan Saunders said. Towns is questionable to play Friday against the New York Knicks.

The 23-year-old is in New York after the incident forced him to fly commercial and he is being monitored by the team, according to the Star Tribune's Chris Hine.

"That's most important, that he's healthy and he's doing OK," Towns' teammate Andrew Wiggins told Hine. "Because a lot of things could've went wrong but God was watching over him. So we're happy. We're relieved."

Towns has yet to miss a game in three-plus NBA seasons, starting all 303 possible contests in a Wolves uniform. He's been on a tear since the calendar flipped to 2019, averaging 26 points and 12 rebounds while shooting 39.1 percent from 3-point range since Jan. 1.
