The NBA is conducting an investigation regarding Anthony Davis' trade demand following an on-the-record request Monday from the New Orleans Pelicans star's camp.

"We commenced an investigation this morning upon reading the reports regarding Anthony Davis," NBA spokesperson Mike Bass said, according to Marc Stein of The New York Times. "That process is ongoing."

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski cited the open request as a reason for the league's investigation, which could result in Davis being fined by the league.

The Pelicans have already called on the league to strictly enforce their tampering rules amid numerous rumors linking Davis to other teams, most notably the Los Angeles Lakers.

Last month, Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry accused LeBron James of tampering after James - whose agent, Rich Paul, also represents Davis - mused publicly about the idea of playing alongside "The Brow".
