Adidas announces Donovan Mitchell's 1st signature shoe

Donovan Mitchell is the latest up-and-coming superstar to receive a signature shoe, with Adidas set to unveil his "D.O.N. Issue #1" in 2019.

The name of the shoe line contains two references paying homage to the Utah Jazz guard's meteoric rise. The acronym stands for "Determination Over Negativity," and the latter half of the name is a nod to comic book culture and Mitchell's "Spida" moniker, Adidas said in an announcement.

Mitchell joins James Harden, Damian Lillard, and Derrick Rose as current athletes Adidas has honored with a signature sneaker line.

The 22-year-old's quick rise has caught him off guard. He's gone from sliding to No. 13 in the 2017 draft to receiving a prestigious honor midway through his second NBA season.

"It was a thought, but it wasn’t a realistic thought," Mitchell told Blaise New and Rory Ashmeade for Adidas when asked if he imagined getting his own signature shoe. "It was one of things, you know, maybe, but for this to happen the way it happened, and how fast it happened, no it wasn’t even a thought.”
