Luka floored by comparisons to LeBron: 'He's my idol, so it's just amazing'
Two players in NBA history have put up at least 21 points, 10 assists, and nine rebounds in a single game before their 20th birthdays: LeBron James in his second season, and rapidly rising Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic, who recorded that exact line in Wednesday's 122-119 win over the New Orleans Pelicans.
The significance of being in that select club alongside James just 32 games into his stateside career isn't lost on the Slovenian youngster.
"I mean, it's amazing," Doncic said after game, according to ESPN's Tim MacMahon. "You all know that he's my idol, so it's just amazing to be there."
With just one more board against the Pelicans, Doncic would have also become the youngest player to record a triple-double, topping Markelle Fultz's record by 16 days. James didn't record his first NBA triple-double until 20 days after his 20th birthday in his 116th career outing.
