Report: Butler won't attend Wolves media day, start of training camp

Whether or not a trade is consummated this weekend, the Minnesota Timberwolves and Jimmy Butler will reportedly spare themselves the awkwardness of a public appearance.

Butler, who has formally asked to be dealt out of Minnesota, has been granted permission to skip media day on Monday, sources told The Athletic's Jon Krawczynski and Shams Charania.

Butler has also informed the team that, should the situation drag on, he will not participate in on-court activity when Wolves camp opens on Tuesday, according to Krawczynski.

It's unclear whether the Wolves have signed off on Butler's camp holdout. If not, they can fine him every day he fails to report. But both sides are plainly hoping a trade can be worked out before it gets to that point, despite the protestations of head coach/president of basketball operations Tom Thibodeau.

While Thibodeau has reportedly held firm on his desire to retain Butler, Wolves owner Glen Taylor reportedly told his peers at the NBA's Board of Governors meetings that the All-NBA swingman is indeed on the block.
