The Toronto Raptors have officially re-signed point guard Fred VanVleet, the two sides announced in a press conference Friday.
VanVleet, who went undrafted in 2016 and was a restricted free agent, signed a reported two-year, $18-million deal.
After playing sparingly in 2016-17, the 24-year-old emerged as a crucial piece for the Raptors this past season, captaining their ferocious bench unit and slotting into most of the closing lineups.
He averaged 8.6 points and 3.2 assists per game on .426/.414/.832 shooting, led the team with a plus-12.1 net rating, and finished third in Sixth Man of the Year voting.
"This place gave me a chance, and it's my job now to repay that," VanVleet said during the presser.
"We all know Fred's personal motto is 'bet on yourself,'" Raptors president Masai Ujiri said. "We know that Fred is no gamble - he's hardworking, dedicated, and smart, and has been fantastic for us. We're thrilled he'll be a big part of the Toronto Raptors for seasons to come."
