Chris Paul is helping to launch a new basketball-centric global holiday.

The Houston Rockets guard worked alongside Justin Leonard, owner of Game Seven Marketing, to create Go Hoop Day, which celebrates the global impact of the sport.

"Basketball continues to grow globally every year and by creating Go Hoop Day as an international holiday we can give fans and players a reason to celebrate our universal love of the game," Paul said in a statement.

The inaugural Go Hoop Day takes place June 23, and will be held annually on the fourth Saturday in June moving forward.

As part of the festivities, current and former NBA players will host clinics at gymnasiums and courts that had an impact on their development. Paul will host an event in Houston and has set up five other clinics at gyms in his home state of North Carolina.

"Go Hoop Day is a ball player's dream - a chance to say thank you to the game that has given us all so much," Leonard said. "Basketball is the greatest and most dynamic game on the planet. Hundreds of millions of people across the globe play it and enjoy it on a daily basis, but it was missing that one special and unifying moment to come together and celebrate it."
